WINTER CHARM OF LIMASSOL

By | Uncategorized

Limassol, popular as a ‘sea and sun’ tourist destination is nevertheless a winter trip one should not miss! The weather is as mild as 13°C even at night time, so if you are looking for the ultimate coziness, Limassol should definitely be at the top of your Winter holidays list.

It’s not only more attractive room rates and airfares. Limassol has plenty of options for the traveler all year round. Besides a very rich list of archaeological and cultural sites to visit, one can enjoy vibrant nightlife and gastronomy, the sumptuous atmosphere of a wide selection of wine bars, and a great variety of activities for all ages.

Cycling, hiking, bird watching, horse riding, sailing, air sports (weather permitting), snow skiing (usually between January and March), tennis, spa, shopping … are just a few of the available options.  Visitors can explore wine routes in the region considered to be the centre of Cyprus’ wine industry, or byzantine churches routes to become familiar with yet another aspect of Cyprus civilization by discovering churches and monasteries of the former Byzantine Empire.

During the Christmas period Limassol is home to number of events and fairs, in a more traditional and magical atmosphere where locals and tourists come together in mutual, festive celebrations!

Limassol wins second place as a ‘Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism’ in Europe!

karatello

Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism’ contest is organised by the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN), for all tourism destinations Europe-wide. The theme for the 2015 award calls for ‘Industrial Heritage Tourism’ and winners are recognised as ‘examples of excellence’ aiming to inspire and stimulate other European tourism destinations.

The Carob Mill was previously used in the 1800’s as a mere warehouse, and by the 1920’s was converted into a carob mill. By the year 1937, the carobs were exported for animal feed in the UK, Germany, Russia, France and Egypt and also used as a chocolate substitute in the sweet industry. The seeds, thus, enjoyed a particular great demand. The substance was later used in the photographic film manufacture industries and in Pharmaceutical industries respectively.

All this happening and vibrating in Limassol’s old city centre, the site is situated right next to the Medieval Castle; which was home to the only British Royal couple that ever got married outside Britain, Richard Lionheart and Berergaria. Today, as we speak, Limassol’s Medieval Castle is a most visited place for every holiday seeker, every tourist and every local as it has become one of the most recreational areas of the island.

At a time when cultural and heritage tourism is probably the fastest growing sector of all European tourism, Limassol continues to uphold and strengthen its place as a destination of quality with much more to offer than the typical ‘sun and sea’ tourism model.

CYCLING

Cycling in Cyprus

With very few winter months, the Cyprus climate is ideal for cyclists. There are many bicycle paths throughout Limassol, especially along the seafront stretch. Set routes also offer a refreshing and healthy way to explore the area. While viewing the sea, colourful landscapes or mountainous regions, the challenging variety of terrains make each course a unique experience. Cyclists can become familiar with the local flora and fauna as well as with many aspects of Cyprus civilization by discovering churches and monasteries of the former Byzantine Empire, enjoying the picturesque villages and meeting the locals and get an authentic taste of delicious wines and local gastronomy.

Cycling Guidebooks with route and course details are available at CTO offices or information can be obtained from the website www.visitcyprus.com

THE ICON TAKES SHAPE

By | Uncategorized

February marks the beginning of a new era in Limassol, as construction began on the new high-rise development, The Icon, by Limassol’s famous property developer Imperio. The Icon is set to be one of the tallest residential buildings in Cyprus, boasting panoramic views of the city and coastline of Limassol. The project was designed by the established architectural firm UDS Antoniades + Eleftheriou architects.

To make way for The Icon, which is set in the heart of Limassol, in the Germasoyia area, a former historic nightclub, The Triangle Bar, was demolished this month. Once completed, the new tower is expected to house 54 idyllic residences across 21 floors, complete with luxury amenities and around-the-clock services.

The residences will range from one-bedroom apartments to penthouses and full-floor homes, delivered fully finished with inspired interiors and outdoor living spaces designed by Imperio’s award-winning team.

Limassol, the cosmopolitan city on the southern coast of Cyprus, is seeing a surge in high-rise developments to satisfy an ever increasing demand for high-end homes. On a national scale, real estate sales this year have recorded an increase in the region of 25% compared to sales figures for 2016.

Yiannis Misirlis, founder and director at Imperio and vice-chairman of Cyprus’s National Developers’ Association stated: “Cyprus is seeing an increasing interest from investors who are keen to invest in property as a means of securing their family’s future. Given that global interest rates are at an all-time low and a degree of geopolitical uncertainty is widespread, Cyprus is proving to be a safe haven for the world’s sophisticated real estate investors. We expect this demand to continue to rise for the next five to six years.

The estimated delivery date of The Icon is December 2020.

Limassol ranked among the top 5 destinations for boats and yachts worldwide!

By | Latest Posts
* NOTE: All the tributes of All About Limassol (as the Official Guide of Limassol) aim to ONLY highlight the special aspects of this wonderful city, so that everyone can be aware of the exceptional options they offer. Under no circumstances do they have any promotional or nominal value, and they do not serve the interests of Companies, Municipalities, Organizations or Individuals.

Limassol is evolving into a top seafaring destination, and the recent international distinction awarded to the Limassol Marina, ranking it among the top 5 marinas worldwide, is a testament to this.

The ‘5 Gold Anchor Platinum’ Award, which was announced during the opening ceremony of the Limassol Boat Show 2019, is the highest distinction awarded to marinas, and it is based on 89 separate criteria that act as indicators of excellence of the marina’s customer services and facilities. This global scheme, which is jointly administered by the UK’s The Yacht Harbour Association and Australia’s Marina Industries Association (MIA), aims at raising quality standards in marinas across the world.

With a particular focus on the facilities, customer service and infrastructure offered by each marina, this scheme helps customers in the evaluation and selection of marinas that are best aligned to their needs, while at the same time contributing to continuous business improvement.

The award acts as proof of the Limassol Marina’s unparalleled concierge services and its continuous commitment to maintain its facilities and services to the highest standards. As the Limassol Marina is the ultimate ambassador of the Cypriot yachting industry abroad, this award serves to strengthen the image of the island worldwide. It is worth noting that the Limassol Marina has previously received major awards and distinctions, such as the ‘5 Gold Anchor’ and ‘Blue Flag’ awards, which reflect its commitment to the protection of the environment and best practices.
